CREATIVE PROCESS - ORIGIN - PURPOSE

Self-taught in what I do, my creative process forms a meditative liberating connection to the world. I am always visually and mentally sifting through everything. I look for qualities (organic, etc.) to combine as expressions of nature and/or the human condition. The creations are my materialized mental impressions. They are inspired by my evolving experience, thus forming a record of the influences on my life (sociological, architectural, environmental, etc.).

In the formation of the art, shape association plays a large part. A material or object that resembles something can represent that thing when manipulated into the context of an art piece. This can elevate ordinary materials and/or objects to a higher level by offering a fresh experience in perception. This is what I’ve always hoped to feel as a viewer of art. Physically bringing chosen elements together with artistic finesse is a major part of the challenge.

In viewing the art an intangible (but in many cases) universal human connection can be established. First the viewer recognizes a familiar form. Next there is the discovery of its unexpected structural components. Finally, there is relevance to the viewer's personal experience, if only a shared sense of humor.

Being exposed to the world, I interpret all that it gives me. I apply my creative process in sculpture (figurative, environmental, animal), print media collage, painting and design (furniture, lighting, interior, architectural, landscape). I appreciate being known as a "green" artist for my ability to imbue artistic value in and with anything I encounter in life.
